The Boys’ Brigade was founded in Glasgow on 4th October 1883 by Sir William Alexander Smith. From this one Company formed in Scotland, the BB has grown in to a world wide movement which has worked with millions of children and young people for well over a century.
The 1st Ashton Boys Brigade Boys Brigade company was founded on 22nd March 1960. Ever since then many members have grown from young boys into young men through their experience of the Boys Brigade.
At the 1st Ashton-in-Makerfield Boys Brigade the boys carry out many activities from making craft items, games, competing in competitions and also camping. As you are probably aware, children develop rapidly. There are big changes in a child’s mental, emotional, social and physical development. However, all children are unique and have a variety of needs. The relationships formed with children can be important in assisting them to achieve a sound sense of personal and group identity.
A company within the Boys Brigade is split into three main sections and the details of these are explained below.
If you are interested in joining the 1st Ashton Boys Brigade please use the contact details at the bottom of each section to get in touch with us. The boys follow an award scheme and when they complete a set amount of activities they are awarded a badge. All this counts toward working to gaining the highest award with the BB, the Queens Badge Award, the highest in the Boys Brigade. Employers look highly on people who have been part of the BB.
